GCHN - Geocacher Far North

Geocacher Hoher Norden refers to the community of geocachers in Schleswig-Holstein.

GCHN is not an association with rigid rules, but a loose association of geocachers who enjoy their hobby and are connected to the most beautiful federal state in the world. We care about a reasonable coexistence among the cachers, we want to show the most beautiful caches and corners of the country and support all cachers in the country, regardless of whether they live here or are guests. The newbies who have just discovered the hobby are particularly important to us. We do not smile at them, but take them by the hand as newcomers and introduce them to the peculiarities of geocaching. On our homepage we offer a lot of information about geocaching freely accessible for everyone. Only the forum and a few areas require registration.

Another important point is real life. We provide an online platform with a forum, but actually we prefer to see each other in real life, be it at events or looking for cans together. We organize events ourselves, make all events in Schleswig-Holstein available on the homepage and offer the opportunity to contact, organize and make appointments via the forum.

It is therefore important to us that we are registered in the GCHN under our Cachernick and have a connection to Schleswig-Holstein. So we limit ourselves to geocachers as members in the forum. GCHN does not live through one or a few people, everyone can become active for the GCHN community if they want to.

Die Ziele

Our goals

We are cachers from Schleswig - Holstein!
Our home zone is in the most beautiful federal state in the world, in the land between the seas! We are northerners and live and cache where others vacation, which we can read daily from the logs in our cans from cachers "from far away countries". Thus, with the caches that we lay out here with us, we are increasingly representing our homeland, in which we all feel very comfortable. Once the North has cast its spell, it won't let go! The unique and ever-present sea breeze in the land between the seas keeps us firmly in its grip! But she doesn't have to, because we're lucky to be able to live here. And so that our guest cachers also get an unclouded impression of our unique federal state, we make a little effort here in this forum to convey the necessary know-how to our cache owners so that it then works with the positive log entries of our guests!

But not only our guests should feel comfortable with us, we want that too of course! And with this website we have found the ideal medium for this. Here we inform ourselves about the news in our region and exchange ideas about the small and big problems of our everyday life as a cacher. We give each other tips on attractive caches and don't skimp on constructive criticism if things aren't going so well somewhere. We maintain a very friendly tone among ourselves and also answer "stupid questions" with a friendly smile, because we have internalized that cachers don't ask stupid questions, but only get stupid answers elsewhere!

We have paid special attention to those who have only recently discovered this most beautiful hobby in the world for themselves, the newbies ! We do not smile at them, but see them as newcomers whom we are happy to help. Since recently new cachers no longer primarily find their way to us through the propaganda of an experienced cacher but through media reports, there is no mentor who would make the first steps a little easier. We are trying to do justice to this task here. That sounds selfless, but it is also provided with a good portion of self-interest, because we are also looking for the cans of the newbies in our home zone and therefore have a vested interest in the quality of these caches!

But we're not only pursuing serious goals with this board, after all we're not at work here, we're right in the middle of our hobby, somewhere between "knee-deep" and "upper edge of the lower lip". Of course, first and foremost we want to have fun and indulge in our passion surrender to beloved vices. And you can do that here with almost all your senses! People like you and me act here and most of them know each other personally. And if you don't know one yet, the next event will definitely come! Sinking in the VL is impossible here, since in principle only the strings for the RL are pulled here!

We meet relatively regularly, but quite informally, as part of a small GCHN regulars' table event with changing organizers. And then there are always plenty of evening-filling topics from the field of geocaching. But also the cozy "Klönschnack" is not neglected, because you know or get to know each other. We are happy about every new face we see! And that at all events in the most beautiful federal state in the world!

And our most urgent goal is that it stays that way! What makes this forum so lovable is the regional connection, the identification of the members with our region and thus also with GCHN and the physical proximity in which we live, go caching, meet each other by chance and visit events! That's why you can only join us if you live in the most beautiful federal state in the world.

Hände, die einen Kreis um das alte Logo bilden. Teamwork ist alles!

With this wealth of information that we deliver to you here every day, a single admin would be completely overwhelmed, as is usually the case in many other active boards! That would be significantly more than a full-time job and therefore not possible in terms of time! And even this broad spectrum of concentrated expertise could never be covered by a webmaster acting alone! That's why we have spread the diverse tasks over many broad shoulders and do the job in teamwork with experienced and, above all, committed experts in the specialist areas that we want to cover with our offer!

At GCHN, two administrators share the many tasks of the webmaster  a busy forum! In addition to the basic work on the layout and tinkering with new projects, which always have to be thoroughly tested before they are released, there is a large number of ongoing work to be done: checking and admitting new members, forum administration, checking and approving new contributions by our authors, checking and approving the photos uploaded to the gallery, responding to user requests, welcoming new members and of course lots of editing work on our diverse offering on the main menu and home page. Responsibilities have been formed here in "normal operation", in which one represents one another at any time, and experience has shown that one of the two is always online and can become active if necessary!

At GCHN there are not only two competent administrators! They may be fit as a fiddle in Joomla and server administration, but they know as much about T5 rope climbing technology as a fish knows how to ride a bicycle! But you don't have to, because we have our experts who work in the area of the main menu in their subject area as authors and in the forum as moderators! Here you will find the special areas such as T5 rope climbing technology, coins and other trackables, HTML design, cryptology, GSAK,  GPS devices, other hardware, iPhone and other smartphones and the legal aspects of geocaching.  . Each topic is assigned to a master of his subject, who is not only at home in his topic, but is also happy to share this knowledge with you!

We are all devoting ourselves to a task together that none of us could do alone! We enjoy our hobby and don't want to contribute a little unselfishly to the fact that attractive caches are laid out in our most beautiful federal state in the world! We can only achieve this if we act together! Would you like to get involved and strengthen our team? Then please talk to us about it! But you don't necessarily have to be an expert in a specific field to give us a little help! If you are from Schleswig - Holstein, register with us and take an active part in our forum discussions! We look forward to your posts!

Team spirit prevails here!

The term GCHN, Geocacher High North, dates back to 2007. At that time, this term was coined by the geocacher McWanglFM and the cachers from the most beautiful federal state in the world were given a contact point to exchange information via the Internet. In 2009 the site was relaunched under the URL that is still valid today  www.gchn.de,  initiated by the geocacher Eric74, who over time was replaced by Rollo from the rolloundbounty team. In August, the association "Geocaching Schleswig-Holstein eV" was founded from the ranks of the GCHN. This association is primarily used for communication between muggles and geocachers, but the association also takes on the legal and financial security of the GCHN homepage and now also runs it in terms of content. Nonetheless, the GCHN is still a social site, run by the community. Anyone who wants to take part is always welcome.

Since 2007 there have been some campaigns and coins on the part of the GCHN, this history will be successively posted here.

The geocachers in the far north can be recognized by our logo in their cache listings. With this we show our connection to the most beautiful federal state in the world and give the new cachers in the land between the seas the chance to get to know us! We "wire" the link to GCHN with the logo in our listing, thereby directing cachers to our board where we warmly welcome them and provide plenty of good information so they in turn provide us with plenty of good new caches!

You are free to use the ones listed here  To use logos and banners for your purposes, as long as you do NOT change them! Feel free to download and embed them. However, we recommend that you only use the latest version ;-)
